Bess Sommerfelt is a highly motivated paralegal for the Joslyn Law Firm with a strong passion for the criminal defense industry. Bess is a Columbus native, growing up and attending Upper Arlington High School and is an active member of her community. Bess graduated a year early in 2018 from Ohio University with a Political Science Pre-Law Bachelors degree and a minor in Sociology. Through her studies, Bess was able to hone her organizational and time management skills, which makes her so dependable in and out of the office today. Currently, she is beginning the process of applying to law school to follow her passion for this industry and become an attorney of her own, all while working full time as Brian Joslyn’s head paralegal.

Prior to working for the Joslyn Law Firm, Bess was involved in several advocacy groups around the Ohio University campus, which encompassed Students Defendant Students, Student Senate Judicial Panel, and Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity. The skills Bess inherited throughout these organizations were vital to her success post-graduation. Immediately following graduation, Bess worked as an intern legal assistant for a Corporate law firm in Columbus, Ohio. The slower-paced environment was not a suitable fit for Ms. Sommerfelt and ultimately led her to finding the lucky fit here at the Joslyn Law Firm.

On a day to day basis at the firm, Bess works diligently managing a variety of client case files and is frequently interacting with clients and court personnel. Throughout her time at the Joslyn Law Firm, Bess has familiarized herself with the legal process in and out of the Courthouse and has made valuable connections with numerous individuals within the field. Bess also functions as a liaison between clients and Attorney’s, ensuring all of the clients’ needs are met and all questions are answered as we assist them in navigating one of the most difficult times in their lives.
